Someone to Judge
It is widely accepted and taught that we do not judge. That is what I thought, until I ran into an exception. I found someone in the pages of Scripture that we are required to judge. "But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgement." (I Corinthians 11:31). The one we are to judge is ourselves.
Upon reading this verse, I saw myself stepping out from the darkness into a bright spotlight. The darkness was my own understanding and the ideas of the popular culture which surrounds us. The bright light was the pure truth of God's Word. My prayer was, "God allow me to be laid bear in the light of your Word. As I read, allow your Spirit to peal back the layers of worldly ideas, errant philosophies and tainted motives. Reveal what is inside, that I may judge myself rightly and seek your Divine surgery to remove that which would destroy. Thank you for loving me enough to not leave me in the darkness, but bring me into the light of Your truth."
